Digital Magazine Circulation Doubles, Newsstands Sales Drop

Digital magazines’ circulation has doubled during the first half of this year, according to an article by Ad Age. At the same time, single-copy newsstands sales have dropped by 10% compared to the previous year. Although the results are undesirable, publishing companies remain optimistic as they believe the main cause for the decline is due to readers’ preference for digital replicas. This proposition is supported by the increased popularity of digital magazines, as the number of digital editions has roughly doubled to 10.2 million compared to last year. This growth has subsequently given publishers hope as magazine companies can finally use a distribution channel that is more stable and filled with opportunity.
