How Marketing Managers Can Get Their Teams to Listen

How Marketing Managers Can Get Their Teams to Listen

The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.

Phil Jackson
A well-structured, synergetic team is the main determinant of a company’s success. By developing a group of talented, dedicated professionals, your company can become more competitive. That said, boosting your team’s productivity can be difficult. There’ll always be impediments that affect people’s efficiency and morale. To ensure your team gives 100% of their energy, you have to define a specific goal. This allows you to make sure your team is concentrated as they know exactly what they need to work towards and achieve. To help come up with specific goals, you can ask yourself the following 4 questions:

  1. Where are we going?

This question defines the specific objective you want to achieve. Whether it’s to double your revenue by the year’s end, attain 150 new customers in 6 months, or grow Twitter followership by 5% in the next quarter, these goals allow you to identify exactly what you need to work on in the next while. It also allows you to cut out all the external noise and filter out other goals that are less integral to your organization.
  2. How do we get there?

Once you know what your goal is, you have to to identify how you’ll get there. For instance, if your goal is to increase your revenue by 20% in the next quarter, you must think of ways to achieve this goal. Tactics include cross-selling, average order value augment, or AdWords advertising. While these approaches can change over them, you have to generate a list of marketing tactics to get yourself started.
  3. How can I contribute?

Just like your employees, you’re a member of the team. This means that you have to carry your weight and help out as much as you can. Whether it’s answering emails at 2 o’clock in the morning or creating documents, you have to contribute to your team as much as possible so that you can boost your team’s productivity and remove impediments.
  4. How will my team be rewarded?

People are motivated by different positive reinforcements. They’re driven by financial rewards, social acceptance, or both. As a manager, you have to realize this and reward your team members on things they value. For instance, a person who’s driven by financial success may feel more appreciated if you give him a bonus for achieving a goal. This enables you to maintain the high team morale so that you can continue the success in other projects.

Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success

Henry Ford
Teamwork is key to every company’s success. By using the 4 approaches above, you can define a specific objective and come up with various tactics to achieve it. This will help your team remain focused and work diligently to reach the goal.
