Skype for Android will now have Ads

Microsoft today updated Skype for Android. The new version, Skype 4.3, now has an improved call connection over Wi-Fi and supports for 14 new languages. The updated version will also showcase ads to free users. Paid users will continue to have an ad-free experience.

While Microsoft wants to increase Skype’s revenue by indirectly encouraging users to pay for its telecommunication service with ads, it may adversely affect the user experience and ultimately give users more reasons to switch to Google Hangouts. The Google-powered telecomm service is very similar to Skype and enables users to host video calls with up to 10 participants within the same conversation. The service also lets users integrate other Google products such as Gmail and YouTube with Google Hangouts, allowing users to make video calls conveniently through Google tools. This is particularly useful for today’s digital marketers as they can start or join digital conferences directly through their email accounts without affecting their workflows. And best of all, it’s ads free.
